KATE BOY featured in FADER

"At the end of the day on Friday, Pitchfork posted a link to Kate Boy’s “Northern Lights,” a definitively post-The Knife pop song that uses alien sounds as a platform for pop music. Where The Knife go sterile, though, Kate Boy feels more emotionally honest. It was one of those things that, when it hit the internet, felt like a brief moment. Not to get too into the meaning behind a “moment,” but what I mean when I say that is a purely 2012 internet moment. The song was all over my Facebook feed, and I could hear my roommate listening to it on repeat through the walls. At one point he even told me that the song was “exactly what he needed.” I have no idea what that means, but “Northern Lights” is an undeniably great song in the sense that it takes all sorts of weird music shit and molds it into something you could play for someone that doesn’t care about music at all and they’d be into it. I still don’t know that the track is something I NEED, but everything in it is in its right place. Kate Boy will undoubtedly make more music, and there’s no reason to think it won’t be awesome, but if this song was it, that’d be okay too."
